ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Synopsis
From an exhaustive culling of the press corresponding to the first years of the 20th century, the composer, professor and researcher of the UPSA, Francisco José Álvarez, has summarized in a zarzuela of Salamancan customs the main characteristics and events that accompanied our city at the dawn of the last century.
The plot, developed in three typical Salamancan settings, begins with the excuse of moving the bandstand which, after eight years on the Paseo de la Alamedilla, returns in September 1906 to its original location: our Plaza Mayor.
Alfredo Fuentes, owner of a drinks establishment on the Paseo de la Estación, stars in the play by participating in a festival contest proposed by the town hall with which he will try to win over Clara Martin, a local artisan.
Musicians (such as Hilario Goyenechea, Pablo Marcial Sánchez and Bernardo García Bernalt among others) characters of the time, events and picturesque situations are mixed in a risky proposal of a genre that, for more than 50 years, has practically no new premieres in our country.
Fiction and reality form, in short, a whole that will in no way leave indifferent the viewer eager for pasodobles, ballads and the most costumbrista zarzuela.
