  Presented at the Philharmonie on 23.04., the 3rd edition of pOpera is the result of several months of work involving participants from many different backgrounds, both amateurs and professional artists. They co-created the opera together, from the story to the musical inspiration and visual elements.

  A project built together
  The initiative was developed by the Fondation EME, whose work is based on the idea that music can bring people together beyond language or cultural differences. In pOpera, everyone is welcome to take part, regardless of musical experience. Participants were invited to share their stories, test musical ideas, and gradually build the final opera as a group. They got to know each other and experimented with material and ideas before creating the complete performance that will be presented on stage.

  This collaborative spirit is reflected in the diversity of the cast. The production features a community choir, a choir of refugee children, the Pueri Cantores du Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg, and four professional opera singers, all accompanied by the Luxembourg Philharmonic under the direction of Ivan Boumans. The music was composed by Tim Wollmann and the libretto written by Antoine Pohu, both based on ideas developed during the workshops with the participants.

  The visual identity of the project also follows the same collective approach. The artwork for the poster was created by school students in Pétange, Redange, and Kirchberg, who worked with artist Florence Hoffmann after discovering the music and the libretto. One of these drawings, created by a student named Dylan, was selected for the final design.

  Voices from many backgrounds
  The project aims to show the multicultural reality of Luxembourg. During rehearsals, participants communicated in several languages, including Luxembourgish, French, English, Spanish, Arabic, Ukrainian, and Turkish. This diversity is also present in the performance itself, where multiple languages and personal stories become part of the opera.

  A shared experience on stage and in the audience
  Another important aspect of pOpera is that the audience is not only there to listen. Spectators will be invited to sing along during the performance, as they represent the community in which the characters are evolving, turning the evening in a true participative experience.

  More than a performance, pOpera is the result of a long process built on collaboration, learning, and trust. By bringing together people from different cultures and life stories, the project shows how music can become a common language and a way of telling shared experiences.
