Rigoletto, the king’s jester, is also a loving father to his daughter, whom he hides from the eyes of the world to protect her. Giuseppe Verdi’s opera is an adaptation of Victor Hugo’s play, Le roi s’amuse, where the jester is called Triboulet. An extract from each work is performed, as well as a ballet version, to the music of Léo Delibes.
