This work was created as a tribute of deepest respect and gratitude to the Heroes of the Fatherland. This musical canvas, woven from the words of poets who lived through the war—K. Simonov, B. Pasternak, R. Gamzatov, and Y. Levitansky—will become the voice of those whose names have been lost to time, but whose sacrifice is forever inscribed in history

On December 9, Russia’s memorable Heroes of the Fatherland Day, the walls of the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall shook with sounds born to give voice to the silent pages of history. The world premiere of composer Valery Voronov’s monumental work, “Requiem for the Unforgotten,” took place . This work, created at the initiative of maestro Yuri Bashmet, was more than just a concert, but a powerful symphonic act of collective memory, where every note acquired the weight of a word, and every word the force of an orchestral impact. The musical fabric of the requiem is woven from the poignant lines of poets who served in the front lines. The thunderous verses of Konstantin Simonov, the lyrical depth of Boris Pasternak, the mournful wisdom of Rasul Gamzatov, and the piercing clarity of Yuri Levitansky met with the austere, ascetic, yet incredibly dense and energetic musical language of Voronov. Their words, filtered through the prism of contemporary compositional thought, sounded like an alarm, like the echo of millions of destinies, acquiring a new, almost tangible power. More than two million viewers witnessed this musical and poetic monument via a live broadcast. Irina Kupchenko. The premiere’s cast symbolized the connection between generations: actors Polina Agureeva, Irina Kupchenko, Evgeny Tkachuk, and Alexey Vertkov, and soloists Nikolay Zemlyanskikh and Danila Knyazev. The monumental sound of the A. Yurlov State Academic Choir of Russia and the concentrated energy of the All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Yuri Bashmet provided the musical power capable of bearing the weight of this memory. Nikolay Zemlyanskikh, Danila Knyazev. At the center of the concept is the theme of memory as the highest expression of human dignity. This is a requiem not for specific names, but for all who have sunk into eternity nameless. Voronov’s music, sometimes stern and spare, sometimes exploding with titanic climaxes, explores the very nature of memory as a force resisting oblivion and reminds us of the incalculable price of a peaceful sky. “I awaited this premiere with trepidation. Above all, I was counting on an understanding of Valery Voronov’s music. This music is very powerful, one might even say mighty, and the language may not be so familiar to the general public, but we are moving forward… There were many young people today… And I hope that they will take up this baton of memory from us… I am certain that this world premiere is of great significance, especially today ,” shared maestro Yuri Bashmet . The hall was transformed by the visual score, echoing the power of the sound. Paintings and graphics from the Tretyakov Gallery collection, created during the war and post-war years, as well as historical photographs from the RIA Novosti archives, came to life on the screens. Each visual sequence, like a musical phrase, was carefully constructed in dialogue with the score.
