ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
It is largely unknown that the “operetta king” Franz von Suppé was also a composer of sacred music. The revival of his Requiem in D minor for soloists, choir and orchestra at the Klangfest Ebrach 2012 was all the more important.
The Philharmonia Festiva and the Munich Philharmonic Choir under the direction of Gerd Schaller impress with a moving interpretation of the work written in 1855, in which Franz von Suppé finds his very own romantic sound language. Top-class soloists round off the overall picture of this “performance with cult status” (Nürnberger Nachrichten).
Singing: Marie Fajtová, soprano; Franziska Gottwald, alto; Tomislav Muzek, tenor and Albert Pesendorfer, bass. The magnificent setting for the concert is the cathedral church of the former Cistercian monastery Ebrach from the 12th century, an architectural gem located in the middle of the Steigerwald.
The baroque beauty of the interior corresponds impressively with the music. In addition, the picture director (Elisabeth Malzer) also includes outdoor shots from the Ebrach market and its surroundings.
