“I want to be a bastard man anytime
I want to be the red pants
But, not everyone can become red pants.”
The opera Red Pants is set in Gangnam, Seoul in the 1970s and 1980s, and revolves around the character Jinhwa-sook, who is also called ‘Red Pants’. It was set in the background of real estate development that was active in the Gangnam area of Seoul at the time. Jinhwa-suk Jin is a big player in the real estate industry who can create three apartments with one bus token. Su-jeong of the neck, who wants to be a belly person like her red pants, asks Jin-hwa-sook’s mistress Seong-su to connect her as her middle leg in order to intentionally approach her. In this way, Jinhwa-suk and her high school classmates, Canola Flower and Mok Soo-jeong, who is the husband of Rape Flower and Detective Voodoo, get information that real estate in the Gaepo-dong area of Gangnam will be developed. However, somewhere suspicious of rape blossoms and the pier were actually preparing to arrest the red pants, and their identities were revealed when Jinhwa-suk was arrested. Writer Mi-hyun Yoon projected the social problems of the time on them by vividly bringing each character to life. She comically portrays problems that are prevalent in our society, such as the gap between the rich and the poor, in a light, but not light, way in her own way. She leaves a heavy impression on the audience who visit the performance with the story of ‘we’ that can be deeply sympathized with.
