The highlight of this year’s “Puccini’s Italy” thematic season of the Opera was the Erkel Theater’s Italian Evening on March 2, whose star guest is Sonya Yoncheva, who during her rich career of a decade and a half, has performed at the Scala in Milan, the Staatsoper in Berlin, the Paris Opera and the He also enchanted the audience at New York’s Metropolitan. In the evening’s diverse program, the Bulgarian soprano performed excerpts from Puccini’s operas The Mermaids, Bohémélet, Manon Lescaut and Miss Butterfly. At the gala, the artist’s partner was Gergely Boncsér, and Mihály Kálmándy and Csaba Szegedi, who was awarded the title of chamber singer of the season, also performed, as well as Gabriella Balga, Máté Fülep, Géza Gábor, Tivadar Kiss, András Palerdi, Rita Rácz, Orsolya Hajnalka Rőser, Tibor Szappanos and Bernadett Wiedemann. . The Opera Orchestra contributed, Choir and Children’s Choir members, artists of the Hungarian National Ballet – Lili Felméry, Sofia Ivanova-Skoblikova, Kekalo Iurii, Ievgen Lagunov, Gergely Leblanc, Melnik Tatiana, Timofeev Dmitry – and students of the Hungarian National Ballet Institute. The Evening was directed by artistic director András Almási-Tóth and ballet director Tamás Solymosi, while the ensembles were conducted by chief music director Balázs Kocsár.
