ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
This time, the backdrop for the entire story is the first (Czech) phase of the Thirty Years’ War, which also encompassed Silesia. This war is merely a prelude to the love story of two warriors 🤺🤺 who fight against each other in a war they themselves don’t understand, a war for the religious ideals of their principals, and ultimately a war for their own lives. Thrown into the vortex of a historical machine, they discover themselves to be mere pawns on the gods’ board 🔮
Musically, this work continues the exploration of brutalist, minimalist, and miniaturized 🏙️🏙️🏙️ – both in terms of language and form. The initial coherence, stemming directly from the borders of American minimalism (suffice it to mention the actual influence of Julius Eastman), falls apart as the action unfolds. The musical segments are getting shorter and shorter, leading to the anticipated “Tiktokization of music” by the end of the nano-opera 📱
