Marinus De Jong (* 14 July 1891 in Oosterhout ; † 13 June 1984 in Antwerp (district Ekeren )) was a Dutch-Belgian composer and pianist.

Marinus De Jong was born in the Netherlands but became a Belgian citizen after completing his studies at the Royal Flemish Conservatory of Music in Antwerp . His teachers included Émile Bosquet (piano) and Lodewijk Mortelmans (counterpoint and fugue).

De Jong began his musical career as a pianist; from 1919 to 1922, he toured the United States, including New York . From 1925, he taught at the Church Music Institute in Mechelen , and from 1931, he taught piano at the Antwerp Conservatory (and counterpoint from 1948).

De Jong’s extensive compositional output encompasses virtually all musical genres. In addition to his in-depth studies of Gregorian modes , it also reflects influences from Flemish folk music. Among other works, he wrote four symphonies, six string quartets, the opera Esmoreit (premiered in 1970), and the oratorio Hiawatha’s Song (1947). His compositions have received numerous awards, including his fourth string quartet (1956), which won the prize from the Société Belge des Auteurs, Compositeurs et Editeurs
