  PLAUN SALTER – CONTENT

  Prologue – 2025, in the schoolhouse Danis-Tavanasa

  ​The children tell the fairy tale of the village of Laradira.​​​ ​

  ​​1. Act – 1957, in the village square in Laradira

  ​It is Sunday, and the residents of Laradira go to Mass. Two girls, Selina and Tina, are late and excited, because they would have to sing a song in the church. At this moment, a woman from Italy arrives in Laradira. She and her companion are looking for Plaun Salter. The woman calms the girls, sings their song together with them and then accompanies them to the church.

  ​During the Mass, wild dogs approach the village square in front of the church. The dogs have escaped their owner, the hermit. He finds his animal companions in front of the church, where you can hear the singing and the prayers of the Messengers. On the wall, he notices a letter to an extraordinary gathering, and he suspects that this could lead to turbulence.

  ​After the Mass, all the villagers gather in the village square to hold the trendy gathering. Plaun Salter, a forest clearing outside the village, is for sale, and today the auction is to take place. The local councillor Conrad and the chancellier Carli introduce the interested parties, who are expected in the village shortly: a gentleman from the company Wilson from London and the director of the Vatican bank. An Italian woman seems to disagree and wants to intervene, but she is interrupted by Conrad. Again and again, this woman interferes in the affairs, until the local council gives the order to the head of the young team, Baseli, to arrest them.

  Not only this woman is not satisfied with the procedure; the farmers, led by Giuli and Balzer, do not want to sell Plaun Salter. In their opinion, this sale will plunge the village into misfortune. Firstly, we must not sell the homeland and destroy nature. On the other hand, we know that Plaun Salter is under the protection of the hermit, and this should not be upset. Conrad, however, doesn’t want to know about a hermit’s fairy tale.

  Then a lady comes forward with the wish that she also wants to bid on the purchase of Plaun Salter. These are Luzia Vonlanthen, a local woman who was driven out of the village many years ago and has now returned as a millionaire. She wants to buy Plaun Salter to make luxurious perfume flacons from the crystals.

  While the inhabitants of Laradira still have this and that to discuss, a woman from England arrives. She introduces herself as Lady Wilson, the boss and owner of the Wilson company in London. She wants to buy Plaun Salter to construct a special crystal oven for the Queen of England. Conrad is slightly overwhelmed with the arrival of this lady, he had expected a man and in addition that he does not understand any English at all.

  Sur Giachen, the pastor of Laradira, is taking advantage of the situation to report on his plans. He says that the church is crowded Sunday after Sunday and that the walls of the church will not last long. They therefore want to build a new church and the proceeds from the sale of Paun Salter would then go in favor of this project. The children are enthusiastic about this news, storming in and interrupting the gathering.

  Suddenly Stefan, a member of the papal guard, appears in the village square. He’s looking for his superior, Donna Friselli. The local councillor Conrad realizes that he has made a major mistake: the Italian woman he treated so badly is the director of the Vatican Bank. This is of course not at all happy how you received it. When everyone has calmed down a bit after this shock, she tells the reason why she wants to acquire Plaun Salter: new rings for the cardinals are to be created from the crystals.

  The round is now complete and the auction can take place in the afternoon in Plaun Salter.

  ​​​2. Akt – 1957, in Plaun Salter

  ​After lunch, the children meet for play in Plaun Salter. This mystical place awakens her imagination and they are completely engrossed in her game. Suddenly, the hermit with his wild dogs is in front of them. This wild man gives them a big impression, but they quickly realize that they do not have to be afraid of him. The hermit sprinkles the stones with a miraculous powder, which should fog the three women and drive them away from Plaun Salter.

  Suddenly, the farmers approach the forest clearing. They, too, have a plan: with slurry stench, they hope to get rid of the three noble women.

  ​Little by little, everyone arrives in Plaun Salter. The three women are impressed by the place, they are particularly impressed by the wonderful fragrance. It doesn’t take long, and they feel the intoxicating effect of the powder from the hermit. The men decide to carry the three women into a barn so that they can recover from their intoxication there.

  ​Meanwhile, the Hermit appears to the inhabitants of Laradira, these are in shock: It is not a fairy tale that exists to hermit! However, the men who return from the barn do not want to know about such confused fantasies. They claim that hallucinations are triggered by this powder on the stones. Sur Giachen and Conrad use the absence of the ladies to make some propaganda for the sale of Plaun Salter. The farmers also take the opportunity to convince those present of their cause, the preservation of Plaun Salter.

  ​Finally, the three women return. However, they are still somewhat dazed, especially Donna Friselli has not quite recovered from this high.

  ​Finally, the auction can begin. Sur Giachen and Conrad, however, disagree on who is in charge of the auction and get into each other’s hair. Lady Wilson and Luzia Vonlanthen do not like such behavior, and they interfere. The whole situation seems doomed, and the farmers are now sure: the women give up. But this reinforces Donna Friselli, and she offers ever larger sums until she is stopped by a voice from the forest. The hermit reveals himself and his dogs grab Conrad. He has to admit defeat and refrains from selling Plaun Salter.

  ​The children are not satisfied, all afternoon they had to give up their game again, because the adults have taken their playground into account. They are inspired by the miraculous environment in Plaun Salter and sink into their fantasy world.

  ​

  Since the sale has failed, Sur Giachen is still asking for a donation in favor of the new church. But people are full of excuses: some have forgotten the wallet, others flee from the upcoming thunderstorm and the farmers have to go to a calving cow.

  ​Finally, Conrad remains alone, and there he notices that he must rethink his position as a local councillor: he must resign.

  Epilogue – 2025, in the schoolhouse Danis-Tavanasa

  ​The children tell of the fate of Conrad: After this incident, he resigned from his office as a local councillor and later died of a lung disease. It was only at his grave that one thanked him for his tireless commitment to the welfare of the village.

  All singers sing about what has become of the village of Laradira.
