“Pirouz and Parizad,” an Iranian opera by Ali Qamsari, is a work based on a poem by Ehsan Afshari that combines music, singing, drama, movement, and stage design to depict a fantasy tale of ancient Iran.
In this story, the king of Iran decides to give his daughter “Parizad” to the most worthy man in the land; but unlike the usual narratives, the competition is not between warriors, but between singers and artists. A poetic tale of love, art, music, and the search for beauty.
