ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Kārlis Zariņš (1930 -2015) was the leading soloist of the Latvian National Opera from 1960 to 2006. The artist has sung a lot in the former USSR and beyond: in Bulgaria, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Spain, Germany, Italy, Holland, Belgium, Sweden, and has also given concerts in France, Austria, Greece, the USA, Canada and elsewhere in the world. Ten years (1970–1980) were spent as a freelance soloist at the Russian State Academic Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. Kārlis Zariņš’s vocal and acting performance has been unforgettable in dozens of roles – José in the opera “Carmen”, title roles in the operas “Tannheiser”, “Othello”, “Don Carlos”, “Peter Grimes”, Rudolph in the opera “Bohemia”, Cavaradossi in the opera “Tosca”, Toast in the opera “I played, danced”, Radames in the opera “Aida” and many others. Hermani in Peter Tchaikovsky’s opera The Queen of Spades can undoubtedly be mentioned among the brilliant tenor’s most brilliant roles.
