ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Synopsis
The story follows Iporangaba, a young indigenous warrior on an epic quest to save his forest. The sun has been devoured by the terrible jaguar, Xivi, bringing darkness to the world. To restore light and save the forest, Iporangaba must journey through Amazonian landscapes, aided by enchanted mythical beings, including the Boto-cor-de-rosa (Pink Dolphin) and Iara.Meaning: “Onheama” means “eclipse” in the Tupi language.
Production: It is frequently performed by the “[Pequeno Teatro do Mundo]” (Little Theater of the World), a company specializing in string marionettes.
Theme: The opera uses poetry and imagination to present a lúdico (playful) story about environmental preservation.
Style: Ripper’s composition uses a romantic tonal language, featuring dramatic choral passages, lyrical arias, and influences from Brazilian folklore. This work is designed to make opera accessible to younger audiences while emphasizing the preservation of Amazonian culture and nature.
