ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

The PROvision program has become a sensation in Russian musical life in 2021. The famous pianist, Honored Artist of Russia Alexei Goribol and the unique, talented blind singer Oleg Krikun (tenor) announced their duet with a program of romances by Russian composers of the 19th century – Glinka, Dargomyzhsky, Tchaikovsky. The PROvision program has already been presented at the Zaryadye Concert Hall (Moscow), the Yeltsin Center (Yekaterinburg), the Baikal Christmas Festival in Ulan-Ude, the Radio House (St. -Museum of Isaac Schwartz, in Tarusa, at the VIII International Tchaikovsky Festival in Klin (in the living room of the House-Museum of P.I. Tchaikovsky), in the Classics Center in Ivanovo and caused numerous responses in the press and social networks.

“The romances of Glinka and Dargomyzhsky are subtle, bright, chaste “messages” of the Pushkin era. But for some reason they imperceptibly left the repertoire of performers. The choice of this particular music for Oleg Krikun’s big debut turned out to be very accurate. His voice seems to be created for the romances of these composers. Simple, at times, artless, even naive (Dargomyzhsky “You and You”, “Charm me, enchant me!”, “Don’t call her heavenly”, “Young Man and Maiden”, Glinka’s “Barcarolle”, “To Molly”, etc.) , they acquire a special, indescribable charm in his performance.

Oleg’s voice in vocal genetics is close to Lemeshev. But with the amazing vintageness of his timbre, he is completely devoid of “dusty” old-fashionedness. The most famous romances (“I’m sad”, “Don’t tempt”, “I remember a wonderful moment”, “In the midst of a noisy ball”) Oleg Krikun performs not only deeply in feeling and thought, but surprisingly not banal, with a very personal understanding and musical report -poetic intonation. It seems to me that a young singer can make this beautiful classical music topical for listeners close to him in age precisely because it does not sound pompous, not artificially academic, but simply, beautifully and humanely!

From my point of view, absolutely unique interpretations of Tchaikovsky’s romances were born in the ensemble of musicians. Oleg Krikun in their performance is not only vocally convincing, but also amazingly artistic. In the romance “To Forget So Soon”, written in 1870, he managed to convey that intensity of drama that “predicts” the future “Queen of Spades”. But at the same time, in the already completely Germanic intonations (exclamations of “Oh my God!”) There was no traditional tenor anguish, but there was a natural transmission of feelings, based on the depth of experience.

Oleg Krikun’s performance of such works by Tchaikovsky as “Legend”, “Winter Evening”, “Lullaby”, “The Soul Quietly Flew Through the Heavens” by Oleg Krikun is filled with a special spiritual and moral meaning. And the romance “Tell me what in the shade of the branches”, the final concert, performed by the duet was not just a culmination, but a real apotheosis of love for life, which is so characteristic of both musicians.
