ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Carlisle Floyd, arguably the greatest of America’s 20th Century opera composers, adapts to the operatic stage Nobel Prize winning John Steinbeck’s powerful novella detailing a tragic story of two displaced migrant ranch workers in California during the Great Depression. Their dream of owning their own land one day ends instead in tragedy. The drama and powerful music will grip your heartstrings and the opera’s plea for compassion and hope is as timely now as when John Steinbeck wrote his novella in 1937. In the opinion of the late composer himself, this is his greatest operatic achievement.
