  The renewal of Brazilian opera takes place on the stage of the Theatro São Pedro , a cultural institution of the São Paulo State Secretariat of Culture, Economy and Creative Industries, managed by Santa Marcelina Cultura. Based on the work of the Theatro São Pedro’s Lyric Composition Workshop , which aims to foster the composition of original operas through a training program with leading professors in the genre, the theater’s opera season will present * O Natal de Maria: ópera curta em três cenas* (Maria’s Christmas: a short opera in three scenes) and *Juanita: una história de amor em Portunhol* (Juanita: a love story in Portunhol) on June 11, 12, and 14. Tickets cost from R$ 41 (half-price) to R$ 124 (full price) and are available on the theater’s website.

  With the Orchestra of the São Pedro Theatre , the show brings together young composers, librettists and performers in a production that values ​​original creation and dialogue with the public, under the musical direction of Maíra Ferreira and the stage direction of Julianna Santos , and with the participation of singers Manuela Freua (soprano), Laiana Oliveira (mezzo-soprano) and Vinícius Atique (baritone).

  A unique project in Brazil, the Lyric Composition Workshop at the Theatro São Pedro offers participants theoretical and practical activities, providing a perspective on opera in contemporary times that prepares them to discuss and reflect on the development of operatic language. This year, the works presented to the public will be * O Natal de Maria: ópera curta em três cenas* (Maria’s Christmas: a short opera in three scenes) , composed by Fernando Dias Gomes (2002-), with a libretto by Isabella Luchi (1991-), and * Juanita: una história de amor em Portunhol* (Juanita: a love story in Portunhol ) , by Pedro Pascoali (2000-), with a libretto by Lena Giuliano (2003-).
