ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The Nymph, a supernatural and beneficent character, very often has a brief role in French baroque opera. It was traditionally entrusted to a coryphée from the troupe of singers of the Royal Academy of Music. Often a light and free character, baptized Naiad, Dryad, or Nereid, the Nymph is the voice of reason and wisdom (despite seemingly naive words) who opposes the roles of tragedy, tormented by passion. However, composers and librettists sometimes choose to put the Nymph at the center of the story, and to confront her with these same amorous passions: Arethusa, Scylla, Ismene…
With the complicity of the musicologist Benoît Dratwicki, the harpsichordist Béatrice Martin, the violinist Emmanuel Resche-Caserta and my musician colleagues and friends, I wanted to highlight the multiple facets of these nymphs through an anthology of extracts from operas , partly unknown, by composers such as Lully, Desmarest, Colin de Blamont, Francoeur, Rebel, Mondonville, Rameau. Some pieces for harpsichord by François Couperin and Jean-Philippe Rameau complete this program. An intimate and multifaceted program.
