ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Join A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute alumnus, guest artist and baritone Joshua Conyers (B.M. ’10, FPAC ’15) as he tells his story as a Black man and musician in America. The recital will feature the song cycle “Two Black Churches” by award-winning composer Shawn E. Okpebholo. The program will also include Conyers singing works by Samuel Barber, Charles Ives and Florence Price. Collaborative pianist Nancy Johnston will accompany him.
Conyers was a Grammy nominee for best opera recording for his role as Reginald in “Anthony Davis: X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X” with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project/Odyssey Opera. He won rave reviews for his role as The Reverend in Jeanine Tesori’s “Blue” at the Washington National Opera and recently made his debut in the same production with the English National Opera. Conyers will make his New York Philharmonic debut as the bass soloist in Handel’s “Messiah” in December.
