ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
On the night of May 30 St. Petersburg will once again open its heart to music – one of the most poetic and anticipated events of the St. Petersburg spring will take place on the Admiralty Embankment – the fifth anniversary event “Music of the Palace Bridge”, taking place as part of the sound night show “Singing Bridges”.
The immortal works of great Russian composers will be performed against the backdrop of the mirror-like surface of the Neva and the architectural masterpieces of the historical center. From the swift overture and brilliant arias of Mikhail Glinka from the opera Ruslan and Lyudmila to the heartfelt scenes from Rimsky-Korsakov’s operas: Sadko, The Golden Cockerel, May Night, The Tale of Tsar Saltan. The program will be decorated with the magnificent polonaise from Eugene Onegin and the ballad of Tomsky from The Queen of Spades by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, as well as Bolero and Laura’s romances from the opera The Stone Guest by Dargomyzhsky.
In the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, the musical evening will be filled with special solemnity. The program is centered on military songs that have become a living chronicle of courage, memory, unbending spirit and eternal glory. The performances will include the powerful “March of Enthusiasts” by Isaak Dunaevsky, the heartfelt vocalise of Liza from the opera “The Dawns Here Are Quiet” by Kirill Molchanov, the dynamic “Sailors’ Dance” from the ballet “The Red Poppy” by Reinhold Glière, the anthem of naval valor – “Naval Guard” by Yevgeny Milyutin, the touching march “Farewell of Slavyanka” by Vasily Agapkin, the soulful song “Where There Was War” by Vladimir Dmitriev, the lyrical waltz “Amur Waves” by Max Kyuss and the heartfelt “Serve Russia” by Viktor Khank. These immortal works, firmly inscribed in the musical memory of the country, will sound like a sacred tribute to those who gave their lives for freedom, and as an eternal reminder of the strength of spirit, unity and love for the Motherland.
The culmination of the evening will be the ceremonial opening of the Palace Bridge to the sound of Reinhold Glière’s “Hymn to the Great City”. At this moment, the lights of the Rostral Columns will flare up in the sky – symbols of triumph, victories and beauty of the Northern capital.
The magical atmosphere will be complemented by a fascinating 3D mapping show that will unfold right on the bridge’s open leaf — a light show that will bring the architecture to life and add visual magic to the moment. The Admiralty Embankment will turn into a grand open-air concert hall that night. Two LED screens will be installed for the audience so that everyone can become part of this unique event.
For a large number of young people, the raising of the bridges is a long-awaited event that characterizes the uniqueness of the Northern capital, and for a huge number of city guests, the event has become a mandatory point of the tourist program. The project is a bright artistic tool that allows you to fully experience the spirit and atmosphere of night Petersburg.
