ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Described by the composer as a “secular Mass”, the piece unfolds across five canonical sections (Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei) with inserted texts by writers and poets — from Pablo Neruda to Leo Tolstoy, from Giuseppe Ungaretti to Gino Strada — and closes with a Dona nobis pacem underscoring its appeal for peace.
The concert opens with a “Prelude to the Canticle”, a preview of another Piovani work dedicated to Saint Francis’s Canticle of the Creatures. The composer has said he felt the need for a Mass that speaks of peace: “The final word is Peace!”.
