  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

Sung in Latin, Spanish, and Nahuatl, Misa Azteca harmoniously unites two worlds in a celebration of unity, forgiveness, and mercy. Each movement intricately weaves together the sentiments, rhythms, and prayers of both European and Indigenous cultures, revealing the shared longings that transcend the boundaries of seemingly disparate worlds. These longings converge in the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose appearance in 1531 brought these two worlds together. The “Salve Regina,” sung near the end, embodies the motherly tenderness associated with La Virgencita. While simultaneously speaking in ways unique to each culture, a new people and a new nation were born. During the research for Misa Azteca, the core of the book, Guadalupe and the Flower World Prophecy, was first discovered. The ancient indigenous song-poems reveal a profound and undeniable connection to Our Lady of Guadalupe’s appearance in the 16th century. Given that one couldn’t exist without the other, both Misa Azteca and this book form a cohesive whole.
