ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Maximianno Cobra’s new edition of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis revitalizes the 1927 classic with technical mastery and artistic vision. Using frame-by-frame time mapping, Cobra transformed the original 16fps silent film into a 24fps “natural pace,” adding approximately 30 minutes and giving the motion a smoother, more organic rhythm. Carefully re-edited and reframed, with new intertitles and English adaptation, this version highlights Lang’s architectural compositions, dramatic tension, and dystopian narrative like never before.
Complementing the restored visuals, Cobra composed the full symphonic score Metropolis – Ordo ab Chao, recorded by the Europa Philharmonia Orchestra and released by TEMPUS Collection. Using musical expressionism, the soundtrack heightens the emotional and psychological depth of the story, weaving together ambition, struggle, and reconciliation. Music and the new pacing work together to make every scene resonate with intensity and clarity.
This edition celebrates both the craft of cinematic restoration and the artistry of interpretation, offering audiences, scholars, and cinephiles a fresh way to experience Metropolis. Cobra’s work bridges silent film heritage with contemporary audiovisual innovation, demonstrating the enduring power of Lang’s masterpiece.
