  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Memory Machines ~ Máquinas del Recuerdo is a multidisciplinary musical play that weaves music, spoken improvisation, and visual elements into a nostalgic journey through memory and cultural heritage. Centered on the unseen presence of a grandmother and the treasured objects in her house, the work explores how spaces and belongings carry personal and collective history. The dialogue between a singer and a pianist reflects on Latin identity, the echoes of exile, and the creative power of remembrance. The performance highlights what was preserved and what was left behind when families moved from Cuba to Miami, transforming keepsakes into living legacies. Music, poetry, and art intertwine to celebrate roots and resilience. The experience invites audiences to reflect on their own memory machines—the objects and stories that guide creativity, identity, and belonging.

    Production synopsis

Two performers, a singer and a pianist, guide the audience through a grandmother’s home where every object holds a story. The grandmother—central yet unseen—anchors the narrative as memories are activated by the space and its keepsakes. Through improvised dialogue and musical selections, the artists trace a path across time, asking what is carried forward and what must be left behind. The story reflects the experience of Latin communities shaped by exile, especially the passage from Cuba to Miami. Each recollection opens onto themes of identity, inspiration, and creative legacy, with music, poetry, and images illuminating the house as a map of memory. The performance concludes as a shared act of remembrance, where cherished objects become living machines of memory.
