Opera by Spyros Samaras, the masterpiece “Medge”, is presented on the Olympia stage, as part of the tribute to the great Greek composer of verismo. Following the revival of the opera “Lionella” in May 2023, conductor Byron Fidetzis, continuing his invaluable contribution to the dissemination of the learned Greek repertoire, re-orchestrates “Medge”, as, as in the case of “Lionella”, Samaras’ orchestration is considered lost. The opera, presented in the original French libretto by Pierre Elzéar, is an impressive achievement for the only 22-year-old Samaras. Its inexhaustible melodic richness is interpreted by an excellent cast of Greek and French opera singers.
