  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

Inspired by the myth of Euripides, the work consists of three parts, each of which includes ten musical sequences. It was performed for the first time on October 18, 2002 at the Palafenice in Venice, with the choir and orchestra of the Teatro La Fenice.

Medea is a dreamlike work, in which myth and contemporaneity merge through the formal relationship of three scores: musical, directed and live-electronic. The myth of Medea is relived with fragments from Euripides’ Medea, properly extrapolated in the most expressive and lyrical points of the original text. It has references to the contemporary for themes such as the loss of identity, land, homeland, sun and sense of sacredness lost in a time in which ideological nihilism seems to crush man precisely in his ideal and value aspects.

The characteristic of the work is to foresee three Medee on the scene who psychologically represent the “fracture” of the contemporary ego, to which psychoanalysis has dedicated extensive studies.
