ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The show, based on the score and libretto by Rufo Herrera, an Argentine composer based in Brazil since 1963, who turned 90 years old in 2023 and is considered one of the greatest contemporary composers in the country, tells the story of a violent and arrogant man, “hard, crazy and without restraint, like a big wild animal”, who loses everything he has and seeks redemption in a distant and hostile place. On his journey, he faces temptations, trials and conflicts that lead him to question his faith and his destiny.
Just like in the short story, the montage emphasizes two constants in the Rosian backlands: violence and belief. The production, therefore, is crossed by themes such as redemption from crime, punishment, penance, forgiveness and destiny – always seen from the point of view of popular Catholicism: “Pray and work, pretending that this life It’s a day of weeding in the hot sun, which sometimes takes more time to pass, but it always passes. And you can still have a lot of good joy… Everyone has their time and their turn: you will have yours.”
