  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

The Gay Lussac Theatre presents the show Double Bill – Masks by G. Bernstein & Lyre of Deceptions by Rodrigo Camargo, two short lyrical works that explore the contrasts between fantasy and reality behind the scenes of Carnival. Created from our poetry and rhythms, “Masks” and “Lyre of Deceptions” are genuinely Brazilian works, presented sequentially in a staging where the pain and delight of the Carnival intertwine like streamers at the end of the festivities.

The show features concept and stage direction by Antonio Ventura, musical direction and vocal preparation by Claudio Ávila, and choreography by Cris Sasso.

The first piece, *Máscaras* (Masks), is a lyrical scene by Rio de Janeiro composer Guilherme Bernstein, bringing to the stage the archetypes of Colombina, Pierrot, and Harlequin. Amidst the masks of revelry, an emotional triangle unfolds, full of subtleties, humor, and melancholy.

Following this, the audience will witness the world premiere of the opera *Lira dos Enganos* (Lyre of Deceptions), composed by Rodrigo Camargo especially for the FELINI Festival. In this work, the characters Maria, Teresa, and Joaquim lead an intense narrative, accompanied by a chorus that blends the lyricism of Greek tragedy with the irreverent spirit of Rio de Janeiro’s carnival.

Both works will be presented with piano accompaniment, highlighting the dramatic power of the voices and contemporary scores.
