The co-production between the Mustakis Foundation and Teatro del Lago returns, in which Pedro Vicuña pits the woman – Carmen Disa Gutiérrez – against the soprano – Paulina González –, exploring the dichotomy that the lyrical singer has always had. The Divine Maria Callas.

Her personal timbre, great dramatic talent and particular beauty made her the most famous opera singer of her time, and perhaps of all time. Born in New York, but of Greek origin, her performance in the 1950s at La Scala in Milan elevated her to the highest point of the 20th century operatic Olympus, and her intense love story with Aristotle Onasis immortalized her as a character in theatre, film and literature.

Soprano Paulina González says that “The work is a dichotomy and speaks about the questions Maria Callas asked herself at the end of her days. Why, even if she achieved happiness, she could not make it last. Her relationship with Onassis and with her mother are recurring themes.”

“It is a challenge. I do not intend to make a realistic imitation of what she was, however, I have looked for various elements that give her a little more identity, it is enriching from the acting point of view. You have to have a lot of courage to play Callas,” emphasizes González.
