Key classical figures include Girolamo Abos (1715–1760), Nicolò Isouard (1773–1818), and Francesco Schira (1809–1883). Modern and contemporary Maltese opera is shaped by composers like Charles Camilleri, Joseph Vella, and Reuben Pace.

Nicolò Isouard (1773–1818): A highly prolific Maltese composer who achieved success in Paris.
Giuseppe Arena (1707–1784): Valletta-born composer working primarily in Italy.
Francesco Schira (1809–1883): Valletta-born, recognized for his contributions to European opera.
