ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Gustav Mahler’s second symphony, ‘Resurrection’, which is recorded as one of the greatest symphonies of the late romantic era, contains Mahler’s appreciation of the afterlife and resurrection. Influenced by Beethoven, who left a challenging repertoire called choral symphony, this symphony also depicts the joy of resurrection by utilizing two soloists and a chorus.
Soprano Sumi Hwang, who won first prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium, one of the world’s top three music competitions, mezzo-soprano A-Kyung Lee, who won first prize alone at the 34th Bellini International Vocal Competition, the first Korean to do so, and Mahler under the direction of Korea’s leading maestro Hunjeong Lim.
