ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

With “Lucio Papirio dittatore” the music of another opera pasticcio Handel is lifted from oblivion. The conflict described by Titus Livius between the Roman military dictator Lucio Papirio Cursor and his cavalry commander Quintus Fabius Maximus Rullianus was a popular opera subject in the 18th century. The work was the first in a series of operas by other composers that G. F. Handel adapted for the London stage as a pasticcio between 1732 and 1737.

One of the notable early music ensembles in England brings the unknown Handel pasticcio back to life. Since 2015 Opera Settecento has specialized in unearthing seldom or never heard operas. The London-based ensemble, under the proven leadership of Leo Duarte, is known for its rousing art of music as well as stylish and musically fascinating interpretations. The musicians receive vocal support from an internationally outstanding soloist ensemble, including winners of the Handel Singing Competition London. The work is being performed for the first time in Germany and who knows when you will be able to experience this music again.
