A daring experiment: For her first appearance at the Lied Festival Victoria de los Ángeles, mezzo soprano Marina Viotti opts for a natural mix of lieder, chansons, opera and pop music. Under the title “Love knows no bounds”, the program is divided into different aspects of love: loss, seduction, solitude, impossible love, and eternal love. Arias by Handel, Gluck, Bizet and Rossini appear alongside chansons by Edith Piaf, and lieder ranging from Schubert to Schönberg. Viotti is accompanied by a small ensemble consisting of piano, contrabass and saxophone, blurring the boundaries between genres. The performance is almost like a stage work, and in amongst the comedy, the tragedy and the despair, a single question hangs in the air: Are there any limits when it comes to love and music?
