ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Lo sposo deluso, ossia La rivalità di tre donne per un solo amante (The Deluded Bridegroom, or The Rivalry of Three Women for One Lover) was supposed to be a two-act opera buffa, K. 430, composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1783. However, the opera was never completed and only a 20-minute fragment from act 1 exists.
With Expedition on Drift we follow a group of six very diverse people, looking for an unknown creature, that would be somewhere in distant waters. The captain of the club is Sempronio, a scientist in his after-days, who hopes to score one more time unlikely. In (inter)national intellectual circles one sees only the unsalvant of the whole enterprise.
The starting point is the opera Lo Sposo Deluso (The Deceited Groom), a work that Mozart started on his own account, but did not finish. Except for the overture, a quartet, two arias and a trio, nothing was written. So an unfinished work, of which our musical director Vaughan Schlepp has used as much as possible. The rest of the music, with the exception of a piece, is also Mozart’s hand.
