ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Program notes from medici.tv:
Enjoy Achinoam Nini, better known under the name Noa, performing a suite of pieces from her hit 2019 album Letters to Bach at the 2022 Tsinandali Festival! The superb Israeli-American singer is joined by regular collaborator Gil Dor on the guitar and cellist Kian Soltani—marking his third appearance at this year’s edition of the spectacular Georgian festival—in no fewer than ten works by Bach as you’ve never heard them before…
In addition to the beloved Ave Maria that closes the program, Noa, Dor, and Soltani take on five of Bach’s thirty Inventions with lyrics written by Noa, including No. 1 (“The Race”) and No. 6 (“Mars”). The trio also performs Noa’s version of the gorgeous Siciliano from the E-flat Flute Sonata (“A Pair”), the celebrated Sleepers Wake cantata (“All of the Angels”), and the sublime Largo from the Keyboard Concerto No. 5 (“Look At Me”). Noa’s lyrics, by turns cheeky and poetic, put a contemporary spin on these timeless works, demonstrating how alive and endlessly adaptable Bach’s music is even hundreds of years after his death.
