“Let’s Make Opera!” ENCORE is the second public presentation of four short operas created through Highlands Opera Studio’s community opera creation project. Each opera is about 20 minutes long and is based on stories from the history and life of Haliburton County. The works were written, composed, and performed by local artists with professional mentorship from Highlands Opera Studio. Originally developed in 2025 and funded in part by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the ENCORE staging brings the four pieces together in a single evening, with community performers joining the original creative teams.

    Production synopsis

The evening presents four short, community-created operas in sequence. Two Shots at the Working Beaver draws on local history, with libretto by Veronica Beynon and music by Bill Gliddon. Women at the End of the Line features a libretto by Janet Trull and music by Richard Charles. The works run continuously (no formal intermission indicated) for a total of about 90 minutes, with community performers joining the original creative teams.
