ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
This contemporary, all-female opera, from its conception to its performers, tells the story of four women caught between romantic torments and social dictates. A successful artistic choice.
A mother and her gifted daughter see their relationship deteriorate when a couple in crisis bursts into their lives. The three adults eventually grow closer and, like sentinels, attempt to guide the young girl in her quest for meaning. But each reveals her own desire for happiness, sometimes contradictory and selfish, a source of complex romantic games. Little by little, it is the child who becomes the adults’ support and slips away from them.
In the majestic hall of the Bordeaux National Opera, this original creation is a landmark, since, exceptionally, all the actors are female. Through their unprecedented collaboration, a composer (Clara Olivares), a conductor (Lucie Leguay, winner of the 2023 Victoires de la musique classique in the “Revelation” category), and a director and librettist (Chloé Lechat) are shaking up the operatic world. For their three singers and their actress, they have imagined an opera in which strong women try to find their place in the face of social dictates and the sacrifices demanded of them. The tormented interiority of each and the major contemporary issues come together in a sober, almost minimalist setting, inspired by Lars von Trier’s Dogville.
