To obtain the hand of a young princess, two rival princes regale her with all the entertainment the theater can provide. This comedy in five acts mixed with music and ballets was commissioned by King Louis XIV from Molière and Lully for the 1670 carnival. Total show par excellence, quintessence of court entertainment, this comedy-ballet belongs to a little-known vein of Molière. : that of gallant, almost Marivaldian poetry, which combines a fine and sensitive study of the feeling of love with the ironic and colorful painting of court life. In this fairy tale universe, the wanderings of the heart and mind are both punctuated and challenged by the “entertainment”.
