ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The Drunkenness of Flight unfolds in one act and three scenes, with a libretto by Antonino Pio and original music by Maria Chiara Casà, Marianna Acito, and Lorenzo Petrizzo .
Musical direction was entrusted to Maestro Giuseppe Famularo , with direction by Emanuele Gamba . The digital sets and costumes were designed by the Departments of the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. The work spans eras and symbols to celebrate the bond between Italy and Japan through the dream of flight: the first panel opens with Leonardo da Vinci , who entrusts his pupil Francesco Melzi with drawings and studies on flying machines, an ideal testament to a vision that transcends its time. The second scene takes place in 16th-century Venice, where three Japanese princes, including Itō Mancio , await news of Leonardo’s drawings they wish to purchase. The final scene recalls the 1920 Rome–Tokyo air raid , carried out by pilot Arturo Ferrarin , symbolically sealing the friendship between the two countries.
