  The Queen’s Husband ‎is a ‎operetta ‎in three acts from 1889, composed by André Messager ‎on a booklet ‎French ‎ofErnest Grenet-Dancourt ‎and Octave Pradels.

  ‎Created in Bouffes-Parisiens ‎the 18 December 1889‎, a vocal score was published the following year, but the operetta was not unanimously accepted because it was considered ” ‎too much work » ‎and was replaced at the beginning of January by the revival of another operetta.

  Synopsis

  ‎Florestan, a young artist, asked for the hand of Justine Patouillard.The Patouillards, who run a restaurant at 18 rue Rambuteau, refused his offer.Rejected and discouraged, Florestan leaves to seek his fortune at the Kokistan ‎», equipped, for the sake of form, with a mission from Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, who wishes to show off to his loyal clientele some natives of this distant country.In two minutes of conversation, Tomba-Kopo, the Prime Minister, informs our compatriot about the situation.Local law requires the queen to divorce each year and to take as her new husband (old ones can also re-register) the one who knows how to catch the sacred deer in the race.With little else to do, Florestan puts himself among those seeking to marry Azella, the very acceptable young sovereign.The outgoing husband, Yacoub – with whom Azella was perfectly satisfied – and Tomba-Kopo himself, who preceded him, will be the most serious competitors, the first by force, the second by cunning.

  ‎It is in this context that Monsieur and Madame Patouillard arrive in Kokistan, escorted by their daughter – inconsolable since the departure of her beloved – in order to find Florestan and marry him to Justine. Justine’s joy at finding her Florestan quickly turns sour when she learns that her fiancé has registered on the queen’s list of suitors, and worse still, that he returns victorious from the competition and becomes, by law, the ” ‎husband of the queen ‎”.This does not please either Azella or Justine.To make things right, it is decided to put the law aside so that Azella can get Yacoub back, and Florestan marries Justine
