Programme
Maletti (XVIe)
Il Fàsolo (1598-1664)
Giovanni Girolamo Kapsberger (1580-1651)
Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643)Le Poème Harmonique takes you to Venice, this extraordinary city, but not just any time of year: come and experience a day of celebration during Carnival! Before the start of Lent, Carnival lasts ten days, during which both commoners and nobility indulge in every excess. It’s “the world turned upside down,” where taboos and prohibitions are shattered. Joy exults everywhere, in palaces and in the streets, bordering on madness. Vincent Dumestre and Cécile Roussat harness this primal energy to create an unclassifiable show, at the crossroads of artistic disciplines. On stage, acrobats, jugglers, mimes, singers, and musicians immerse us in a dreamlike and extravagant world. Blending popular tunes, classical music borrowed from Monteverdi, Maletti, and Fasolo, circus arts, and commedia dell’arte, The Baroque Carnival unfolds a series of whimsical and poetic scenes, from a makeshift stage to a gigantic pole, by way of the traditional human pyramid. Created in 2006 and performed all over the world, The Baroque Carnival has met with enormous critical and public acclaim. This is its third run at the Caen theater, where each performance has quickly sold out.
