With the staging of Giuseppe Sellitti’s Intermezzo buffo LA INGEGNOSA VEDOVA, a new creation of the Laboratory for Baroque Opera, the activity of BAROCCO EUROPEO continues with the aim of proposing to the general public the particular repertoire of Baroque Opera in its form of the Intermezzo, a genre conceived as an interlayer of the Acts of the Opere Serie and which often arose from the same pen of the composer of the latter.
Aimed at creating “divergent” parentheses within the heroic or epic plots of the Opere Serie, the intermezzo thrived on gags, misunderstandings, characters entirely taken from common reality, in which everyone could reflect and offered the audience that comic and irreverent dimension which will then be resumed later in the real Opera Buffa.
The further and most distinctive objective of this project is the attempt to renew the Baroque Opera, for a more effective conveyance, placing it in an up-to-date direction, by the director Cesare Scarton, and immersing it in a captivating digital scenography of MEDIA arts.
For this purpose, the collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, the young students of the New Technologies for the Art Section and their teacher Lino Strangis, becomes an essential and founding contribution to the project, giving the final product that aura of freshness and novelty, ready to make a clean sweep of all the stereotypes that surround this magnificent repertoire.
In the role of the two protagonists are two young singers: the winner of the Vocal Competition organized for this production by the soprano Cristina Neri, matched in the stage action by the baritone Patrizio La Placa.
Musically, the support of the orchestral ensemble of the Cenacolo Musicale is fundamental, with the concertation of Donatella Busetto, creator of the whole project.

The plot tells of Drusilla, a young woman determined to put an end to her state of widowhood, targeting what appears to be a good match, the new self-styled doctor, Strabone, who has recently arrived in the city. She therefore pretends to be ill to gather her attentions and try to charm him. But… it won’t be so easy and there will be numerous tricks that she will have to use to convince him to marry…
Disguises, misunderstandings, gags, accusations and counter-accusations, duels and all the scenarios of the commedia dell’arte, for a happy ending.
