ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The sailor Verdier arrives at the port of his hometown, from which he has been absent for six years. There he learns of a new tavern frequented by sailors, drawn by the beauty of Marola, who runs the tavern with the help of her companion Juan de Eguía. All the sailors are in love with Marola, and all the women are jealous of her. Verdier meets with his old companions Simpson and Juan de Eguía, and they reminisce about their younger days. Juan de Eguía wants to smuggle a shipment of cocaine and tells Marola that, since Leandro is in love with her, she must convince him to accompany him on the operation. Leandro and Marola are caught in a storm. Juan de Eguía then explains that Marola is his daughter and apologizes to the astonished sailors. Simpson appears, announcing that Marola and Leandro are alive, but have been caught by the Carabinieri with the cocaine in their possession. When Leandro and Marola are arrested, Juan de Eguía embraces them, confessing his crime and asking the soldiers to arrest only him.
It premiered at the Tivoli Theatre in Barcelona in 1936, shortly before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War.
