ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The action takes place in a Paris attic at the beginning of the 20th century. José Luis, a Spanish painter, is putting the last touches on a painting commissioned by Mister Blay, an English millionaire, in which ‘La Caramela’ is portrayed, a Spanish artist of recognized prestige at the time. During the plot, the visit of Españita, a countryman in exile, and Carranque, another Spaniard, unpatriotic and embittered, takes place. Another group of Spanish friends also appear on the scene: Pastora, Mariano and María del Pilar, who are part of a Spanish folklore company, and whom a heartless businessman has abandoned to his fate in Paris.
José Luis, a good friend of all, tries to help them but he does not have enough money to pay for their return trip to Spain. However, he is confident that with the sale of the painting he could get it.
More members of the company appear: Conchita, Seña Manuela, Ansúrez, Medina and Gregorio, and together they go about setting up the action to try to convince Mister Blay, who arrives at José Luis’s studio, to buy the painting, and although he repeats on successive occasions that he “doesn’t like it”, he was captivated by Pastora’s beauty. At this time, the entire company will do everything possible to distract the Englishman with his Spanish art and convince him to give them the money to return to Spain.
