  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

This concert offers a vast panorama of French music, at the turning point of the 19th and 20th centuries. In addition to a few famous composers (Massenet, Chabrier, Chausson), we will find the singular figure of Émile Paladilhe, who received the First Grand Prix de Rome at the age of sixteen, and female composers whose names are more and more often present on the concert bill: Louise Farrenc, contemporary of George Sand, whose music was much celebrated during her lifetime; Charlotte Sohy, whose “Great War” Symphony was resurrected by Debora Waldman (and played by the National Orchestra in July 2021); Mel Bonis, friend of Charlotte Sohy, whose destiny is melodrama but who leaves pages of great nobility of inspiration.
