Plot Synopsis:
Three American friends, Rodolfo, Schaunard, and Colline, are living with their Italian friend, Marcello, in the northern city of Torino. A mysterious viral epidemic has swept the land, causing mass shutdowns and leaving them with no electricity or heat. Supplies are becoming scarce but luck leaves them with some money and they celebrate at the local café on Christmas eve, leaving Rodolfo behind where he and Mimi meet by chance and moonlight, falling instantly in love, though it is clear she is not well. They push through the crowds to meet Rodolfo’s friends at the Café Momus. Marcello’s old flame, Musetta, arrives with her newfound, rich, American lover, and a terrific scene ensues. Mimi, unable to deny that she is growing sicker, tries to part ways with Rodolfo, but their bond of love is strong. They cling to each other in the piazza as Marcello and Musetta fight over her own emerging illness. A few days later, the friends try to preoccupy themselves at their flat when Musetta brings in Mimi, who is at death’s door. The truth of this terrible plague reveals itself in tragedy…
