A program about Sweden’s national stage for opera and ballet. It is 250 years since Gustav III founded Kongl. The opera with the ambition to create a stage and an art form with Swedish characteristics. The program takes us from the beginning, when the institution did not even have its own building, let alone operas written in Swedish. Over time, buildings have been erected and demolished, operas have been created and praised. Today, the opera house at Gustaf Adolfs torg in Stockholm is in dire need of renovation. Some are even advocating for a brand new house in order to attract future audiences. This is the story of a 250-year history, a story of music, power and the dream of a Swedish opera.
