  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

The Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet is an opera house in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia ( CIS ), which opened in 1978.

    Story
Opera performances in Krasnoyarsk began as early as 1897 on the stage of the city theater. Among the first works performed were Rusalka by Alexander Dargomyzhsky , Halka by Stanisław Moniuszko , A Life for the Tsar by Mikhail Glinka , Askold’s Grave by Alexei Verstovsky , and Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo , as well as several operettas .

Towards the end of 1924, amateurs established a troupe called the “Opera Labor Team”. The city granted them permission to present opera performances in its (old) theater.

In 1977, the USSR Ministry of Culture decided to officially establish an opera institution in Krasnoyarsk. A new building, designed by architect I. Mikhalev, was constructed in 1978 and inaugurated on December 20, 1978, with Prince Igor by Alexander Borodin in attendance.

Over the years, the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet has produced more than eighty opera and ballet productions.

Since 1986, the theater has hosted an International Festival of Opera and the “Young Voices” singing competition.

The theatre ensemble has performed in Belgium, Finland, France, Greece, Great Britain, India, Italy, Yugoslavia, Mexico, Norway, the Philippines, Portugal, Sweden, Spain, Taiwan, the USA and Cyprus.
