ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
To celebrate the anniversary, the Music in the Fraumünster association commissioned a work. The result is the oratorio “KATHARINA”. The oratorio tells of Katharina’s inner transformation and links it with the deep knowledge that everything has its time. Becoming is always followed by a time of passing away and dying, before transformation and then new growth and blossoming are possible. Understood in this way, the Reformation is not just a historical event, but an ongoing process whose struggle for harmonious forms always has the vitality of faith as its benchmark.
The overall concept and composition of the new work are in the hands of Helge Burggrabe. He developed the libretto together with the author Giannina Wedde, who wrote new texts for it. The performers are the actress Julia Jentsch as Katharina, the Fraumünster Vocal Soloists, the Fraumünster Vocal Consort and the Fraumünster Choir, as well as the orchestra le buisson prospérant. The musical direction is by Fraumünsterkantor Jörg-Ulrich Busch.
