A retelling of the ancient myth of the Trojan War

Sing, O Muses, of the wrath of Cassandra! Cassandra, the seer, vows revenge, even if it means being dragged to her own doom. Helen, the beautiful, can no longer bear having her life dictated by others. Hecuba, the mother, preaches moderation. Andromache, the wife, prepares for battle; Hector, the war hero, is afraid. And Philema—Aphrodite’s number-one fan and the ultimate gossip queen—sticks her nose into everything.

At the heart of this retelling of the Trojan War myth is the figure of Cassandra, Princess of Troy. The warnings of impending doom that she—gifted with the power of prophecy—offers the Trojan people go unheeded. While the traditional myth attributes this to a curse from Apollo, enraged by her rejection of his sexual advances, this version grants Cassandra a self-determined role. Instead, it is she who, in her fury, curses those around her: they will never believe her warnings and thus will be unable to escape their destruction. But who, then, is to blame for Troy’s fall? What sacrifices does Aphrodite’s principle of desire demand? And how far will Cassandra go in the name of revenge?
