ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The work was composed by Penderecki for the 65th anniversary of the liquidation of the Łódź ghetto.
Musically, it breaks down into three independent parts:
a poetic one to the poems by Abramek Cytryn from the Łódź Ghetto, and sung by Izabella Matuła;
biblical, recited by Daniel Olbrychski and traditional (also in the melody),
Kaddish beautifully served by New York cantor Alberto Mizrahi. Fortunately, three such different elements are held together by an interestingly written orchestra part.
